Many of our customers have expressed concern in knowing where their food is coming from and how it's produced. Paul and Sharon have built a produce business dedicated to growing high quality produce in an ethical manner. What does this mean for our customers?
We are a "hands-on" farm. All the crops are planted by hand using either seeds or starter plants. Weeding is done by hand with a hoe, or roto-tiller, to keep the rows weed free instead of employing herbicides. All produce is handpicked to ensure high quality; no machinery equipment is used for harvest. While we are not certified organic growers, our growing practices are very similar, or better, than organic.
Many larger farms will schedule their crops for herbicide or fertilizer applications on a rotational cycle. We monitor the crops for insect or disease infestation by going into the field and applying corrective measures, only as needed, to the affected areas using organic based products to control it, not by spraying the entire crop. No herbicide is used on any edible produce.
While crop rotation practices help us keep chemical usage to a minimum, we like to grow the old-fashioned way from start to finish. Seeding, weeding and harvesting by hand ensures the best quality we can offer. Providing quality, healthy produce locally grown is our goal.
We constantly work with the major seed companies we purchase seed from, trialing new varieties that are more disease resistant and offer better keeping quality. This assists us in keeping our produce some of the best on the market.
We truly appreciate your support in these efforts.
